CNC Waterjet/Laser Programmer
This position is responsible for writing and updating computer-numerical control (CNC) programs to control contour path trimming of metallic parts.
Job Summary
- Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of a part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts and feed rates.
- Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths.
- Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part.
- Prepares geometric layout using computer-assisted drafting software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths.
- Writes instruction sheets to guide setup and operation of an automated CNC machine
- Creates machine instructions to direct numerical control database to regulate movement of machine along cutting path.
- Revises programs to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
- Provides technical assistance to waterjet and/or laser operators.
- Performs duties of CNC Waterjet Operator and/or Laser Operator as necessary.
- Programs other CNC equipment as required.
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Basic computer knowledge and skills required
- Catia (Cinit) programing knowledge preferred
- Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required
- Ability to work independently and a good memory for detail
- Overtime and weekend work as needed to support the Customer
- Read and understand internal procedures and policies
- Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook
Required Experience/Education
- High School Diploma; up to 3 years related experience in job function (equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Two years machining and/or waterjet background required
- Basic computer knowledge and skills required
- Math Skills – decimals, percentages, fractions, ratios, proportions – geometry and trigonometry is a plus
- Knowledge of aerospace company specifications and practices preferred
- Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, indicators, and scales
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawing
