Job Description

Job Summary                                                    

Works independently to coordinates the environmental, health and safety functions and responsibilities for a complex manufacturing operation.  Reports to the Regional EHS Manager

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

•         Develops and implements health and safety programs to comply with local, state and federal regulations as well as and company requirements.

•         Ensures all environmental standards are complied with, including: air quality regulations and Title V Air Permit; Industrial Sewer Discharge Permit and Stormwater Permit; Hazardous Waste regulations (State and Federal), Regulatory Reporting, etc. 

•         Develops and implements industrial hygiene monitoring plans and documents results.

•         Prepares and submits permit applications.

•         Prepares and submits regulatory reports.

•         Responsible for the detailed technical activities involved with the management of hazardous materials and chemicals.

•         Develops and implements the site’s annual environmental, health and safety plan.

•         Leads the plant safety team (i.e., Safety Committee).

•         Leads prompt investigation and ensures corrective/preventive actions for all EHS incidents.

•         Develops, gathers, and reports metrics to the Regional EHS manager on EHS performance.

•         Provides EHS support to Incident Commander for chemical spills and other emergencies.

•         Develops and implements site-specific EHS training plan and training presentation material.

•         Develops and utilizes the site compliance calendar and ensures all regulatory, Corporate, and other (i.e. customer) deadlines are met.

•         Responds to customer requests for information (EHS Surveys, REACH etc.).

•         Maintains records in a timely and organized manner.

•         This is a hands-on position and the selected candidate will work closely with Operations and Maintenance to resolve facility environmental health and safety issues in a timely manner.

•         As part of the EHS Shared Services Group, will be expected to participate in EHS group initiatives, such as evaluating new safety programs, sharing best practices, etc.

Skills & Qualifications

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered. 

•         College degree in EHS or related field with 5+ years of experience with all four media (Air, Water, Waste, and Haz Mat) and Occupational Safety and Health programs in an industrial or manufacturing setting.


College degree in EHS or related field with 10+ years of experience with any three media (Air, Water, Waste, or Haz Mat) and Occupational Safety and Health programs in an industrial or manufacturing setting.


High school diploma with 20+ years of experience with all four media (Air, Water, Waste, or Haz Mat) and Occupational Safety and Health programs in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

•         Good communication skills (verbal and written), able to work in a team environment.

•         Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

•         Working knowledge pertaining to accessing state and federal EHS websites.

•         Knowledge of State and Federal Environmental Health and Safety Laws and Regulations.

•         Conscientious, organized, and meticulous; records must be accurate and maintained.

•         Experience with Title V air permits is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities

•         Mentors junior level members of the EHS Shared Services Group


•         Familiar with the use of monitoring equipment, such as: Velometer, Sound Meter, Dräger Vapor Detection Pump, Conductivity Meter, Gas Detection Meter, etc.


Physical Demands

•         Standing, lifting, and bending, pushing, pulling, grasping, stooping and repetitive motion may be required periodically.

•         Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.


Work Environment

•         The work environment may or may not be climate controlled.  Working with and around hazardous chemical and waste, industrial machinery, etc.,
