Job Description

As an estimator at Ducommun, you play a mission critical role. Our estimators acquire material pricing and labor estimates from approved sources and integrate it into a quotation submittal format. If you love detail and want your hard work to matter, this is the job for you!

The work that you do is critical in supporting our leadership team's ability to make informed decisions during the bid process. You will be supporting the common Ducommun goals of making our customers happy or happier while increasing profitability and growth.

Our estimators review specifications, drawings, customer material and verbal instructions to prepare information for quotes (25% of time). They create and enter bills of material requirements into, Polydyne, the bid system data base (30% of time). This information is then used to solicit appropriate vendors for material pricing and submit requests for quotes (30% of time). The remaining time in the day is often spent obtaining labor estimates (5%), creating and maintaining a material file for estimates (1%, reviewing quotes for accuracy (3%) and other duties as needed to support the estimating team and performance center.

 In addition, you will be working with labor estimators, engineering and operations in the role of estimator. Great team work and positive attitudes are required!  Your job description includes communicating effectively across the organization. Our estimators demonstrate strong work ethics, great critical thinking skills and a "can do" attitude.

Skills & Qualifications

 To be considered for the position of estimator, you must be detail-oriented and love to take notes! There are many computer programs that we use in this position. You must be strong in Excel, Word and Outlook. Prior experience in estimating projects where you have been exposed to using schematics, drawings and specifications is preferred, but not required. This position requires a high degree of multi-tasking and an excellent ability to multi-task.

At this location, we produce quality integrated electronics primarily for the military. Related experience in these area is a plus! General requirements of all team members at this location are as follows: must possess a high school diploma or GED, must meet ITAR requirements of being a US Person, successfully pass the background and drug screening processes.

Our estimators work in a quiet office setting. They are encouraged to visit the production floor to learn more about the products for which they are quoting. The production floor is a quiet, clean environment. Appropriate PPE of a ESD smock and safety glasses are required. On very rare occasions, our estimators may be asked to travel to another location.
