Job Description

This position is responsible for design and manufacturing engineering resources for several unique product lines within Engineered Products. This includes R&D, design, new product introduction (NPI), manufacturing engineering, product planning, developing requirements documents, scheduling, developing technical product specifications, and supervising other members of the development team and the ability to work in a cross functional matrix environment.  Must have the ability to develop and execute an innovative technology road map. Additionally, this individual must add value by ensuring that new technology is being developed and the products produced are competitive within the marketplace. This role is critical to the growth of the business. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Set the vision and strategy for the Engineering Function and product development
• Provide leadership and direction during the product development where product issues are identified, detailed, improved upon or corrected early in the product development process
• Lead the R&D projects, budgets, and strategy for Engineered Products 
• Develop Capex plan with operations to ensure alignment between operations capabilities and design
• Provide the technical leadership for the Bid and Proposal process including identify new technologies for sales & marketing to pursue 
• Provide leadership for engineering function such as R&D, design, manufacturing, and project management
• Responsible for engineering direction within the businesses in meeting financial goals per annual operating plan
• Provide leadership during technical information exchange with customers 
• Product planning, scheduling, and tracking of product development cycles and acquisition of needed resources when appropriate 
• Ensure customer requirements are met during the product development process and all appropriate requirements are incorporated into product
• Ensure the engineer function is competent in tools such as 8D, PFMEA, DMEA, lean design concepts and ensure the engineering team uses structured gate review process during product development
• Conduct skill set analysis of the group and identify methods to reduce the gap 
• Maintain and develop an innovative culture and appropriate engineering infrastructure for the company
• Review and make recommendations on policies and procedures to maximize department operating performance

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: 

Reports to the VP & GM of Engineered Products
All engineering disciplines except quality report directly to the Director of Engineering:
Advises, consults, coordinates with:
Executive Leadership
Director Finance: Budgets, spending profiles, policies, short- and long-term planning.
Director Human Resources: Personnel policy(s), recruitment and staffing requirements, labor relations, organizational structure.
MIS: System support requirements, approval of PC software programs.
Operational Excellence

Skills & Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE: 

•Bachelor’s degree required and master’s degree preferred 
•Preferred concentration - Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
•Experience and thorough understanding of AD&D electronics manufacturing, New Product Introduction and Phase Gate Review is required.
•Experience in aerospace or related design manufacturing environment within aerospace and defense industry is preferred.
•Must be able to grow into a larger position of responsibility up to a vice president level.
•Six Sigma, Lean Product development, Kaizen Activity are highly desirable
•Must be proficient in the use of MS-Office tools
•Project Management skills are highly desired
