Job Description


Job Summary & Essential Functions:

Primary function is to inspect electrical equipment to ensure compliance to customer standards and specifications. Performs product inspections including: in-process; final visual; first article and potting. Responsible for process audits and specific program training.

Essential Functions

% of Time

• Read and interpret work instructions and process procedures.

• Read and understand blueprints and drawings

• Inspect a variety of electronic components and assemblies such as printed wiring boards, connectors with attached wires, flexible circuits, crimped or soldered wires, a variety of molded parts and/or the use of such materials in electronic arrangements of various degrees of complexity.

• Check for availability of tools, equipment and materials; receive or relocate materials from preceding operation or storage area as needed; arrange work place, equipment and materials for proper working procedure as required.

• Ensure all required paperwork is received and previous operations indicated on the documents are completed in accordance with established procedures prior to conducting an inspection.

• Complete rejected material dispositions (RMD) paperwork and process for approval.

• Provide technical support to co-workers, suppliers or customers, including identifying and correcting specific problems.

• Meets all requirements as needed for cable assembly or process operations including all required tasks, certification, process procedures and other knowledge, skills and abilities required for the Cable Assembler I, II, and III positions as well as the Process Operator and Product Integrity Inspector I requirements.

• Must be knowledgeable with cable assembly processes including routing, layup, crimp and solder requirements.

• Work safely and responsibly; use appropriate PPE and seek assistance as needed.


• Perform first piece / first article inspections

• Utilization of Visual Faire in completion of first article inspections.

• Resource for production to seek support and guidance for building cable harness assemblies and performing production process operations such as braiding or potting.

• May provide reinstruction and clarification as required to support development of cable assemblers and process operators.

• Subject matter expert in cable assembly or cable processes including braiding and potting

• Professional and credible resource for new hires for questions and support to assist in the new hire assimilation into the workforce.

• Support process improvements and participate in actively providing solutions.

• Professional and credible resource for new hires for questions and support to assist in the new hire assimilation into the workforce.


• Work overtime and support production schedules as required.

• Seek ways to improve skills and capabilities. Attend training sessions and obtain require certifications.


• Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.

• Performs other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project committees


Additional Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Must be a US Person for ITAR regulated facilities.

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED. Prefer some additional college coursework.

  • Requires prior experience in electronic manufacturing environment. Must be proficient as a Cable Assembler III and knowledgeable of cable assembly, crimp and solder acceptable standards.

  • Proficient use of inspection tools and associated technical documents including but not limited to the following:  voltmeters, micrometers, hand stamp, eye loop, pedestal mounted magnifying glass or scope with light, in-process work sheets, drawings, blueprints, specifications sheets, bills of material, a variety of jigs and fixtures for examining components and assemblies and calibrated measuring rules.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to interact with people at all levels inside and outside of Ducommun.
  • Knowledge of required standards, as identified in training matrix, including ISO and Mil Specs.
  • Intermediate level computer proficiency including e-mail, Word, and Excel.
  • Must have good documentation skills; attention to detail is critical.

  • Understand the importance of the programs and products manufacturing which service aerospace and defense markets for military, commercial, government and medical industries.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use of hands for tasks that require dexterity and tedious requirements, occasionally lift twenty (20) to fifty (50) pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus to review engineering documents, identify parts and clearly see operations and identify hazards in the production area.

  • Pass an eye exam for distance and color vision.

  • Working Conditions are: 100% manufacturing environment; 0% office environment, 0% outdoors.

  • Noise level is moderate in manufacturing environment.

  • Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.

  • Fully enclosed shoes must be worn in all manufacturing areas.
  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in designated manufacturing areas.

  • Other PPE, Personal Protective Equipment required as designated.
