Lead Maintenance Technician
Job Description
The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for coordination of the daily operations of the maintenance department and has a high financial impact to the company. The agent must be able to analyze and react to maintenance issues in order to support manufacturing and help provide a safe work environment.
Essential Functions
- Assign maintenance team to insure safe efficient coverage of operational and facility requirements.
- Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
- Review and modify procedures of maintenance staff as required.
- Develop, implement and maintain definitive preventive maintenance plans.
- Contribute to the teamwork necessary to continuously improve other processes.
- Develop and maintain visual management tools to drive Continuous Improvement of the Facility Maintenance department.
- Support plant level Goal Deployment actions and programs.
- Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment insuring proper function and safe operation.
- Maintains a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications
- Computer knowledge and skills, i.e. MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

- Read and understand internal procedures and policies.

- Basic Computer Skills: Able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance.
Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:
- 5+ years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience
- Worked as a Supervisory or Lead position responsible for daily work assignments, tracking and communication
- Five years of mechanical experience.
- Computer knowledge and skills, i.e. MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting hydraulic pumps, cylinders, controls, valves and other function electrical and mechanical components with an hydraulic assembly
- Understanding of hydraulics. Rebuild, piping and adjusting pressure controls.
- Basic electrical and electronic skills.
- Able to diagnose low and high voltage electrical systems
- Experience with Laser and Water Jet cutting machines preferred
- Experience with large tonnage presses preferred.
- Experience with hot form and SPF presses will get preferred status
Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required
- Knowledge of policy and procedures in the event of a Hazardous waste release, fire or explosion.
- Knowledge of the chemical characteristics and location of hazardous waste in the facility.
- Ability to shut down operations.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; or crouch.
- May frequently lift and/or move from 1 – 50 pounds.
- Working conditions are: 10% office environment, 90% manufacturing environment.
- Noise level is moderate in office environment and moderate to loud in manufacturing environment.
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally works in high precarious places and in outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
- Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.
- Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
- Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
