Job Summary:  The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. 

The Sr. Motor Design Engineer in Motion Control Devices will research, design and develop rugged, high reliability electric motors (brushless DC, stepper, and/or AC induction motors) and electromagnetic components for use on high performance and high reliability applications serving the aerospace, military, and oil and gas industries.  The candidate will create conceptual designs, perform electrical/magnetic/performance analysis, develop detailed designs, lead cross functional teams, oversee product fabrication and testing, participate in reviews with customers and provide customer support. Candidate must have design and test experience with motors (brushless DC, stepper, and/or AC induction motors), actuators, mechanisms, and electromagnetic design/analysis software.

Responsible for the design and development of brushless DC, stepper, AC induction motors, actuators, mechanisms, and other electromagnetic devices from concept through fabrication.
Create specifications, models, drawings, control documents, verification and validation plans, procedures, reports, and other documentation in support of design and development activities
Work with other engineers to implement operating procedures and resolve system issues
Prepare material for, and conduct, periodic design reviews
Ensure conformance of products with engineering design and performance specifications
Conduct research that tests and analyze the design and performance of equipment, components and systems
Initiate problem solving for new product designs and as well as existing products
Participate in design integration with customer requirements and industry standards
Mentor junior engineers
Provide electrical and magnetic design input to the engineering department, including bid proposals
Guide the CAD/CAE effort within engineering department; develop product information, and work instructions
Collaborate with purchasing, production, quality, and outside suppliers to set and meet schedules and customer requirements
Perform the component, process, and sustaining engineering function on assigned projects; assure ISO9002/AS9100 compliance
Maintain weekly progress reporting (Project Management and project timesheet)
Support facility and corporate strategic goals
Perform other assignments as required

Excellent verbal and interactive communication skills with all levels of employees and management.
Experience using electromagnetic FEA simulation, analysis and design packages
Develop, record and communicate design analysis, calculations, and solutions to complex problems.
Utilize project management and leadership skills to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a timely and efficient manner
Ability to write technical reports and proposals and make technical presentations to customers.
Negotiation/conflict management skills; demonstrated experience troubleshooting and problem-solving with root cause analysis
Proficiency in email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software packages.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills/Tools:

Read and interpret documents such as, specifications, blue prints, or mechanical drawings. Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices. Proficient at solving problems in a timely manner.

Project engineering experience and demonstrated project management skills
Experienced in failure analysis utilizing 5-Why, fishbone etc. tools.
Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated communication skills, including written and oral presentations in the form of design reviews or proposal presentations in front of customers.

Skills & Qualifications

Experience/Training/Education/Certification:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training and certifications in order to be considered.

Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in electrical or related engineering field.
Minimum five years of design experience in electric motors, actuators, mechanism, or other electromagnetic devices
Experience in designing and developing electrical resolvers or RVDT/LVDT from concept through fabrication is a plus.
Aerospace industry experience is preferred.
