Job Description

Ducommun’s Appleton Performance Center is seeking an Accounting Intern starting in Spring 2019.  The ideal candidate would be available to work approximately 20-25 hours per week through the spring 2019 semester and full time during summer 2019.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • Implement cost accounting procedures and methods.
  • Responsible for the preparation and analysis of cost reports.
  • Determine cost of operations by establishing and documenting estimate of completion costs; collect operational data.
  • Work with the material and operation functions to audit processes surrounding inventory (costing,
    equivalent units, transaction trials, cycle counts, customer furnished material, and obsolete/excess material).
  • Provide training and guidance to the production floor on inventory related activities
  • Provide regular margin analysis reports for actual versus bid to the facility staff
  • Guide cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures; provide trends and forecasts; explain processes and techniques; recommend actions.
  • Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and make comparative analyses; study proposed changes in methods and materials.
  • Confirm costs by collecting, interpreting, and reporting data
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Adhere to General Requirements of Team Members
  • Perform other assignments as required

Skills & Qualifications

Required Experience/Education/Skills & Qualifications:  

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent field.  Junior or Senior status
  • Self-starter capable of interacting closely with production, bidding, and customer service as well as
    the ability to quickly identify and solve complex problems
  • Strong analytical ability and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with a large volume of detail, producing accurate results within aggressive deadlines
  • Advanced level of computer skills in e-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Proficient MRP/ERP system skills
  • Ability to prepare business correspondence, reports, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present technical and budgetary or cost information, and respond to questions from managers and external contractors
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability involving many variables and limited standardization
  • Leadership skills—people management, meeting facilitation, presentation, and customer support
  • Negotiation and conflict management skills together with demonstrated experience troubleshooting and problem-solving
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to interact with people at all levels and functions inside and outside Ducommun Inc.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and adapt within a rapidly changing environment
