Job Description

Ducommun’s Appleton performance center is seeking a Component Engineer to serve as the primary interface between Quality Engineering, Component Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing and Quality Assurance departments by oversight of X Ray Fluorescence analysis of components at incoming inspection. Evaluates the chemical and materials characteristics of components and/or sub-components and systems to determine the analytical composition, verification of component and/or sub component compositions or elemental composition of layered terminations; analyses materials and recommends corrective action; develops analytical, chemical or materials methods, processes, procedures and use of equipment that will improve the analysis process and/or improves quality assurance and quality inspection; improves customer relations and internal product acceptance and quality of RF components and sub-systems through quality assurance and quality engineering; interfaces with customers and management; represents Quality Assurance in Material Review Board approval/disapproval of defective product.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of analysis, evaluation, and qualification of components using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis of components used in microwave assemblies. 
  • Oversees X-Ray Fluorescence analysis methods, testing and processes are in conformance with established processes procedures. 
  • Technical oversight of calibration, analysis and testing of components on instrumentation in our receiving inspection department 
  • Evaluates components for elemental composition and is the subject matter expert for acceptance or rejection of materials based on chemical and/or mechanical characteristics. Supports business systems to determine the cause of failure and ensure corrective action closure using MIDEO video microscope, real time x-ray system and associated equipment. 
  • Ensures calibration of test and measurement equipment and supports Internal Audits and Corrective Action Closure Audits; ensure timely reporting and corrective action of audit findings within the testing area.
  • Creates reports; component analysis reports, instrumentation calibration control charts and process procedures or analysis methods instructions. 

Skills & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in instrumentation, analytical testing or failure analysis of electronic components. 
  • Knowledge of quality processes used in manufacturing product flow from assembly through final inspection. 
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science, Analytical or Applied Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point. 


Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure to Enterprise-wide system, such as SAP or Oracle. 
  • Experience in microwave assemblies. 
  • Master’s Degree. 
  • Active DoD Clearance.
