Job Summary & Essential Functions: The Industrial Engineer will leverage Ducommun Parsons’ design and manufacturing capabilities to drive optimal decisions throughout all stages of the factory life cycle. This role will be responsible for addressing the Operations key focus areas relating to on time delivery and executing productivity goals. The industrial engineer will make sure the company complies with all industry standards for safety while meeting design standards and guidelines. This position utilizes enterprise standards to lead process improvement initiatives by implementing policies, procedures and process documentation related to continuous improvement directives.

Essential Functions

Under direction, analyzes test data, operating data, and plant practices.


Assists in designing plant improvements in accordance with prudent engineering practices.

Analyze processes and perform operator and machine time studies at an elemental level


Under direction, coordinate contractors or staff on project-related work; verifies completed work and recommends final acceptance of the project.

Analyze maintenance of manufacturing equipment with recommendation of Preventative Maintenance activities and schedules

Assists with the planning, testing, collecting, and evaluating of data on plant performance.

Support New Product Introductions by analyzing process flow and material handling to use for industrialization of new products.


Assists in the analysis, development, and performance of engineered functions of plant betterment activities. Inspects plant modifications, reviews actual work accomplished compared to the plan

Under direction, coordinate contractors or staff on project-related work; verifies completed work and recommends final acceptance of the project.

Maintains drawings and files generated or modified by O&M and capital project implementation.


Assist with capital project selection, justification, budgeting, and implementation

Analyze methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and defective or damaged parts

Assists in the evaluation of results of testing program and recommends improvements.

Assists in the development, performance, and evaluation of testing procedures and results from testing on new and existing plant equipment.


Drive safety in all manufacturing and operations processes.

Other duties as assigned including working extended shifts/overtime as required by the business.

Travel Required: up to 10%.

  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills are required

  • Ability to observe and map a current state process and propose changes to meet customer standard while reducing waste and gaps in process

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma/Process Excellence Tools and Methodologies  preferred (i.e. DMAIIC, DMADV, Lean, FMEA)

  • Ability to perform statistical analyses and process control of work flows

  • Ability to think abstractly and apply solutions methodically  

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook), Internet is required

  • Must be capable and willing to learn on the job and advance to the next level of engineering responsibility, and work to obtain Green Belt and Lean certifications

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make decisions based on limited data

  • Familiar with 3D solid modeling tools

    Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.

  • B.S. degree in Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program with minimum 0-2 years of experience related to process engineering. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. person.

    Licenses, Certifications, etc.:

  • Lean Practitioner, ACE Associate/Practitioner preferred

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or higher or equivalent certification preferred.

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

  • Office environment and light manufacturing environment

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)  

    • Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.

    • Fully enclosed shoes, leather construction, must be worn in all manufacturing areas.

    • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.

    • Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
