Job Description

Sets up and operates injection molding machines and presses to produce a variety of molded products or parts from pre-mixed standard rubber or plastic compounds.

  • Ensure specified machine temperatures and pressures are maintained during cycle run

  • Extract parts from mold

  • Deflash, remove flash and burrs from the molded parts

  • Continuously monitor the machine to detect a malfunction

  • Ensure that the mold does not close on a molded part

  • Visually inspect parts for defects and imperfections

  • Adjust the machine settings as necessary to produce an acceptable part

  • Extract jammed pieces or material from the machine

  • Sets up injection molding machine, includes pre-heating machine to specified temperatures, removing material on machine from previous cycle run, and mounting mold onto the machine

  • Set stroke, pressure, and temperatures on the machine

  • Loads material onto the machine prior to cycle run

  • Locates and assembles mold and ejector pins with hand tools

  • Read blue prints/drawings to determine product specifications

  • Read work order to determine necessary mold, tooling, and material

  • Read work order to determine quantity of parts to be produced

  • Dry material prior to production run using drying equipment

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

  • Power machines on/off

  • Communicate and set priorities with lead or supervisor
  • Report equipment problems or malfunctions to lead or supervisor

Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of machines and tools

  • Knowledge of production processes, costs, and quality control

  • Ability to quickly adjust controls of the machine

  • Must have good verbal skills in English

  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic/ math skills

  • Ability to read and understand dials and gauges

  • Ability to see details at close range

  • Basic typing and computer skills

  • Vocational, High school diploma, or general education degree (GED); or 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, and experience.
