Material Handler - Shipping and Receiving

Job Description

  • Prepare and provide proper documentation.

  • Pull material from stock to provide the material necessary for an assigned job.

  • Electronically transact materials to update the business system.

  • Receive all incoming material, opening packages and crates; checking material for visible damage.

  • Verify parts and part numbers against packing list to ensure accuracy.  Notify supervisor of all discrepancies.

  • Deliver items to incoming quality inspection, if applicable, and all other material to proper storage areas.

  • Deliver the parts to the designated work centers or staging areas, ensuring timely response to any deadlines or ship dates.

  • Handle, store, pack, label, and distribute material using proper techniques to ensure no damage to the material as well as to ensure inventory accuracy.

  • Prepare and package products to ship, building special packaging to support various products which require special handling per customer specifications and quality workmanship standards.

  • Ensure accurate documentation for carrier / shipment labeling.

  • Support the first in first out practices while storing all inventory items

  • Ensure products remain high quality during the packaging and shipping process – increasing first pass yield, minimize rework and minimize scrap.

  • Work safely and responsibly; use appropriate PPE and seek assistance as needed. 

  • Kit materials as required to support operations and program requirements.

  • Rearrange storage area as necessary to accommodate varying parts, components and finished stock while maintaining storage area in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Perform daily cycle counting to ensure inventory accuracy.

  • Ensure shelf life material management and recall and disposition according to procedures and requirements.

  • Support process improvements and participate in actively providing solutions. Work
    overtime and support production schedules as required.

  • Seek ways to improve skills and capabilities. Attend training sessions and obtain require certifications.

  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project committees

Skills & Qualifications

  • Must be a US Person for ITAR regulated facilities
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.

  • Prefer prior experience in manufacturing environment.

  • Prefer prior experience with shipping, receiving, stockroom functions.

  • Requires intermediate computer skills including familiarity with MS Office; ERP and online shipping portals.

  • Ability to work and promote safety of oneself and other coworkers. Recognize and communicate unsafe practices to management for continuous improvement of the work environment.

  • Dependable and prompt for start of the shift and return from breaks or lunch periods.

  • Build in product integrity and accuracy into daily tasks to ensure minimized errors and rework.

  • Understand the importance of the programs and products which service aerospace and defense markets for military, commercial, government and medical industries.

  • Proficient with basic computer skills including MS Office; ERP; Online Reporting.

  • Preferred experience in shipping; receiving; stockroom tasks including picking; carousel operations; cycle counts; kitting, etc.

  • Requires H.S. diploma

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.   

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use of hands for tasks that require dexterity and tedious requirements, occasionally lift twenty (20) to fifty (50) pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus to review engineering documents, identify parts and clearly see operations and identify hazards in the production area.

  • Working Conditions are: 100% manufacturing environment; 0% office environment, 0% outdoors.

  • Noise level is moderate in manufacturing environment.

  • Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.

  • Fully enclosed shoes must be worn in all manufacturing areas.

  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in designated manufacturing areas.

  • Other PPE, Personal Protective Equipment required as designated.
