Job Description

Job Summary & Essential Functions:  The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. Other duties may be assigned as needed. All NDT Level III responsibilities includes Ultrasonic, Penetrant and Radiography Inspections.

  • Interpret codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the NDT methods.

  • Determine proper sequence of NDT operations.

  • Assume technical responsibility for the NDT department and staff.

  • Prepare and verify the adequacy of procedures and work instructions.

  • Approve NDT procedures and work instructions for technical adequacy.

  • Understand NDT methods and product manufacturing and inspection technologies used by Ducommun.

  • Provide or direct training, examination, and certification of personnel.

  • Ensure NDT equipment meets the needs and demands of our customers and the growth of Ducommun.

  • Prepare for, participate in and finalize matters pertaining to NDT Nadcap audits.

  • Maintenance and administration of associated records for personnel, instruments and equipment.

  • Maintain certification as a Level III Examiner in current NDT methods.  Certification must be in compliance with NAS 410.

  • Train subordinates in the use of NDT testing devices, methods and techniques.

  • Assist with investigative procedures related to customer complaints and advise other departments on technical matters regarding such complaints.

  • Interface with customer and government representatives on nondestructive testing issues.

  • Keep abreast of current technical process in the industry by participation in technical groups and review of pertinent technical literature.

  • Provides training and expertise in statistical process control areas.

  • Assists the plant manager and others in implementing statistical process control areas.
  • Assist the plant manager and others in implementing continuous improvement concepts and philosophies.
  • Reviews statistical process control charts in manufacturing work centers to assure adverse trends are identified and addressed.
  • Manage daily on-going activities of the NDT department.
  • Act as a mentor for the personal development of NDT personnel.
  • Effectively utilizes and executes continuous improvement activities to reduce cost, improve competiveness relative to hours-per-unit, cycle times and required quality in a visual factory
  • Maintain the Quality Management System through the use of CompliantPro.

  • Implement the Ducommun Training System to ensure certification of all positions within the Company.

  • Knowledge of aerospace company specifications and best-practices

  • Ability to travel to facility in Mexico 40% of the time.
  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered. 

•         Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

•         Five (5) to ten (10) years experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment with increasing levels of responsibilities including supervision or management experience.

•         Courses in industrial management and other applied engineering sciences beneficial.

•         Training in statistical methods and quantitative analysis
