Job Description

Perform cable assembly tasks for highly complex and critical end use applications including defense and government assemblies. Perform high quality and detailed tasks ensuring high first pass yield and efficiency.

Essential Functions

  • Primary function is to provide direction, support, and guidance to production employees.
  • Assist with addressing problems, answering questions, seeking engineering and operations support, and communicating daily and weekly production goals and expectations.
  • First line of contact for production to seek support and guidance for building cable harness assemblies and performing production process operations such as braiding or potting.
  • Read, interpret, and understand work instructions, process procedures, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Perform basic cable assembly process steps including such tasks as wire prep, wire stripping, routing, clean-up, and close out.
  • Perform cable assembly process steps involving crimping, shield termination, wire insert, ID prep, marking, hand solder (basic/complex), complex close-out, and routing/lay-up.
  • Perform operations including wire kitting (manual cut, machine cut, kit wires); complex wire kitting tasks (Printing IDs, machine cut – Laselec, Stencil machine); simple braiding (straight run cables) or potting applications (Cold, metal, silicon, non-molded, and sealants).
  • Meets all requirements as needed for cable assembly or process operations including all required tasks, certification, process procedures and other knowledge, skills and abilities required for the Cable Assembler I, II, and III positions or Sr. Process Operator.
  • Build quality into product – increase first pass yield, minimize rework and scrap.
  • Use appropriate PPE and seek assistance as needed.
  • Support process improvements and participate in actively providing solutions.
  • May provide training as required to support development of cable assemblers and process operations.
  • Credible resource for new hires for questions and support to assist in the new hire assimilation into the workforce.
  • Work overtime and support production schedules as required.
  • Responsible for proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project committees.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen for ITAR regulated facilities.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment or hand assembly, preferred.

  • Ability to work and promote safety of oneself and coworkers. Recognize and communicate unsafe practices to management for continuous improvement of the work environment.
  • Build in product integrity during assembly the first time to avoid and minimize rework, quality rejects, scrap, and late shipments to customer.
  • Understand the importance of the programs and products manufacturing which service aerospace and defense markets for military, commercial, government, and medical industries.

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required

  •  Occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use of hands for tasks that require dexterity and tedious requirements
  • Occasionally lift 20-50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities including ability to adjust focus to review engineering documents, identify parts and clearly see operations and identify hazards in the production area.
  • Pass an eye exam for distance and color vision.
  • Noise level is moderate.
  • Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.
  • Fully enclosed shoes must be worn in all manufacturing areas.
  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in designated manufacturing areas.
  • Other PPE, Personal Protective Equipment required as designated.
