Job Description

Job Summary & Essential Functions: The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of  the position. Responsible for the technical management of projects associated with customer products, including quoting / planning and implementing new business, value engineering, production start‐up / maintenance, capital projects, and continuous improvement programs. This position reports to the Director of New Product Development and functions as the interface between the customer and internal engineering to ensure that all customer engineering requirements are met.

•    Responsible for all phases of project execution from proposal through the qualification and the repeatable manufacturing of the product and/or process.

•    Manage all aspects of assigned projects including scope, cost, schedule, and risk.

•    Functions as the leader of an Integrated Product Team, directing all technical aspects of the New  Product Introduction process, capital equipment definition and commissioning, and continuous improvement projects.

•    Functions as the lead interface between customers, engineering services vendors and internal operations, ensuring that all customer requirements are translated, defined and incorporated into our business and manufacturing systems.

•    Prepares complex quotations and ROM Proposals, supports Value Analysis (VA) Engineering, manufacturability analysis and continuous process improvement efforts.

•    Participates in the conceptual design of complex tools and verifies customer tooling functionality.

•    Proficient at mentoring other coworkers with evaluating and coordinating resolution of process issues.

•    Ability to train incoming employees to ensure they are at 45‐90 day equirements.

•    Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.

•    Must be capable of performing the following activities associated with new product development and deployment:

•    Scope/Requirement Management
    a. Interface with customers, suppliers and internal engineering to coordinate engineering data and ensure     proper flow down of, and compliance to, all internal and external customer requirements.

    b. Identify and coordinate tooling requirements, including forming, functional gauging and assembly     fixtures. Incorporate tool life cycle analysis into cost management.  Assist internal capital expenditure     requests.

    c. Coordinate and assist with First Article Inspection requirements.

    d. Create and maintain accurate Bill of Material (BOM) requirements.

    e. Facilitate planning changes as required for
    customer engineering/purchase order changes or method improvement/correction changes.

•    Schedule Management

    a. Prioritize and coordinate project activities for supporting departments and outside suppliers.

    b. Define and develop detailed project plan including phase gates with major milestones including     project costs. Track and update using Microsoft Project.

    c. Provide status of each project to the internal and external customers using an appropriate format and     methodology.

•    Cost Management

    a. Provide cost estimates to support Customer RFQ’s and Proposals.

    b. Establish budget base lines and ensure execution to plan, FAI and delivery schedules.

    c. Perform regular unit cost analysis throughout project lifecycle.

•    Risk Management

    a. Implement and maintain a Risk & Opportunities Management Assessment in support of

•    Assist in writing work instructions (SOP’s) to describe n detail the processing step necessary to produce     component or sub‐assemblies.

•    Coordinate information flow with other engineer team members to make corrections or improvements     to planning, tooling, or processes.

•    Formulate build plans and manufacturing operations to produce quality components with lean                processes.

•    Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.

Skills & Qualifications

•    Must be capable of managing more complex projects and function successfully in a matrix organization.

•    Self starter, capable of managing several projects simultaneously.

•    Experience using Earned Value Management processes and systems preferred.

•    Coordinating activities while interacting with other (internal and external) resources.

•    Must possess working knowledge of Unigraphics NX and/or CATIA or other similar CAD Programs.

•    Must be capable of understanding and interpreting engineering and business specifications, statements of work, drawings, contracts and similar defining documents.

•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

•    Must present to customers, vendors and internal operations, including the senior management team.

•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.

•    BS degree in Engineering; and/or related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience. 

•    PMP certification preferred.

•    Strong communication skills, able to document, create and present project status to customers and management.

•    5 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment with aerospace products or metals industry; experience with composite materials (foam, chemical, carbon fiber, RTM, other structural textiles and materials ), assembly, complex machining and chemical processing.

•    Basic CAD software system experience, preferably Unigraphics NX and CATIA.

•    Proficient in project management tools, such as Microsoft Project, Excel and Power Point.

•    Comprehensive understanding of Lean Sigma and Value Analysis (VA) Engineering, including design for manufacturability.
