RF Engineering Intern

Job Description

The Engineering Intern will work under direct supervision and mentorship of experienced engineers and technicians in developing technical skills and knowledge in RF capabilities and applications.  These applications will be in space flight, commercial aerospace and industrial markets.

  • Involved with assisting other engineers with completing assigned tasks regarding research, design, development and testing of products.

  • Will be involved with working from engineering design documents, prototypes and/or change orders, drawings and catalogue items.

  • Will work with Design Engineering and Configuration Management to define, document, perform, and interpret specifications and product families for Coaxial Switches, Active/Passive millimeter wave components, Switch Matrices and Hi-Rel products.

  • Will be involved with coordinating with the various support departments engaged in setting up or changing product related technical specifications.

  • May have incidental responsibilities for working with production lines regarding equipment layout and/or work simplification, standardization, time study and similar activities as related to Lean Manufacturing and 6 sigma concepts.

  • Will be involved with verifying switch part numbers to product technical specifications.

  • Will become involved in team meetings and project coordination when required.

  • May be assigned other essential duties, as determined by department management and engineering staff.

  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimal background and or class work in design and modeling concepts.

  • Previous experience working in an industrial or development/design environment a plus. 

  • Capable of learning and grasping the work flow and manufacturing techniques of electro-mechanical assemblies.

  • Working experience with AutoCAD/SolidWorks software in order to create or modify machine/assembly drawings. Analysis experience a plus.

  • Capable of learning and grasping GD&T drafting standard along with assuring accuracy and completeness of drawings, files and tasks of assigned projects.

  • Capable of collaborating and understanding engineering discussions over specifications with production line assemblers and engineering teams. 

  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills including the ability to articulate complex ideas in a simple manner.

  • Ability to effectively communicate among all levels within the organization.

  • Capable of working a minimum 24 up to 30 hours per week on a flexible schedule around class curriculum.

  • Current enrollment as an Engineering student – Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems or Process focus desired.

  • Preferably in their junior year or commencing their senior year or transitioning to a Master’s program.
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
