Sr. Production Scheduler

Job Description

Job Summary & Essential Functions:  The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Employees must meet all customer/company quality expectations and/or requirements in order to ensure product integrity.

 Utilizing BAAN, SIOP, Lean tools, and best practice, SIOP Schedulers own the short-term and long-term planning/scheduling of customer orders, inventory, and operations.

  • Ensure all customer demand is level-loaded into the Baan ERP system according to agreed-upon schedule between contracts, supply chain, production control, and operations. Communicate any changes in supply or demand to all parties.

    • Look forward 18-24 months and align supply, demand, and plant capacity with financial long-range plans

  • Perform macro-level and program-specific inventory analysis. Work with schedulers and procurement agents to implement inventory management improvements.

  • Implement Baan-driven capacity analysis tools. Work with Operations to ensure actual personnel and equipment is allocated according to forward-looking capacity plans

  • Work with scheduling team to implement bus-schedules and level-load shared service work centers.

  • Monitor and ensure the accuracy of Baan data. Initiate actions around improving the utilization of Baan

  • Chair monthly SIOP meetings

  • SIOP Scheduler may also be asked to assume the following program scheduling responsibilities:

    • Schedule and coordinate flow of work within or between departments of manufacturing plant to ensure production schedule is met.

      • Distribute work orders on-time to departments, denoting number, type, and proposed completion date of units to be produced.

      • Coordinate with team members availability or capability of personnel, parts, material, machines, and equipment.

      • Coordinate bus schedules, kanban, 2-bin and other lean material practices within the IPT or shared services, in order to increase flow and reduce inventory.

      • Maintain 6-12 month forward-looking line of balance, waterfall charts, WIP reports, and shortage lists.

      • Expedite production of parts as required and establish delivery dates as required to meet customer on-time delivery.

      • Confer with department supervisors to determine progress of work and to provide information on changes in processing methods received engineering department.

      • Lead the creation of recovery schedules in the event of schedule slips.

    • Utilize BAAN tool and best practice to manage inventory of materials and parts needed to complete production, including physical verification when required.

    • Answer ERP exceptions messages

    • Work with Supply Chain to expedite work in vendor facility and work with intra-company peers to expedite work in other Ducommun facility work centers.

    • Work with QE and ME to ensure items on material review are resolved in a timely fashion.

    • Coordinate the scheduling of meetings and the assigning of responsibility for specific tasks to support customer requirements.

    • Produce detailed BAAN key performance indicator reports to facility and work center goals.

    • Examine MRP data such as BOM, routing and other documents for completeness and latest version.

Skills & Qualifications

Required Skills & Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, qualifications, competencies, abilities and any physical demands if required.

  • Minimum five (5) years experience in a supply chain or production control role in a moderate to high volume make-to-order assembly facility

  • Extensive knowledge of ERP systems (Baan preferred), Word, Excel and Outlook.  Solid knowledge of programs like Microsoft Project, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat are a definite plus

  • Ability to lead a group of people in a constructive, productive, fair manner

  • Ability to work with  numerous priorities and  meet deadlines as required

  • Strong analytical and communications skills, both written and verbal

  • Conscientious, organized and meticulous – records must be accurate and maintained in a timely manner

  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision but also a good collaborator with members of other departments

  • Ability to work under pressure

    Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.

  • Bachelors Degree in Supply chain, Business management, or Engineering
  • Experience in Lean, continuous improvement activities, APICS certification or training

  • Experience implementing SIOP or other high-level master scheduling processes
