TEMP General Helper - 1st Shift

Job Description


Job Summary & Essential Functions:  The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. 

Assist tool shop personnel with a variety of support tasks including painting and preparation, housekeeping, moving materials, and light mechanical work. 


•      Provide support to shop personnel where needed.


•      Operate hand tools and handling equipment when instructed.


•      Prepare and paint tooling and production equipment including hand finishing.


•      Move materials and supplies for department personnel.


•      Assist with housekeeping and clean-up operations.


•      Perform light mechanical assembly.


•      Adhere to company policies and procedures.


•      Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.


•      Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.


•      Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.


•      Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.

•      Ability to operate a forklift.


•      Ability to read and understand internal procedures and policies.


•      Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions.


•      Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.


•      Must demonstrate common sense and possess mechanical aptitude and ability.


•      Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance




•      Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.



•      Must be able to communicate effectively.



•      Frequently required to walk; use hands handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.



•      Annual baseline hearing test is required.




•      Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.



•      Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.  




•      High school diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.



•      Previous shop experience with light equipment or trade experience preferred.


•      Mechanical aptitude.

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.  Safety glasses, safety shoes and other designated personal protective equipment as required for the position.


•      Working conditions are:  100% manufacturing environment.


•      Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts.


•      Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles.


•      Occasionally exposed to solvents, cutting fluids, dust, grease, metal chips, plaster, fiberglass and other particles in the shop.


•      Noise level is usually loud.


•      Hearing protection is required.


•      Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.


•      Fully enclosed shoes of solid, leather construction with a steel or composite toe cap (ANSI Z41 compliant) must be worn in all manufacturing areas.
