Job Summary & Essential Functions:  The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the support and the design development of the tooling for all
new products. Some of the specific duties include:

-Act as project leader to ensure robust planning, tracking and reporting of all critical tooling project activities.

-Bring innovative ideas for state of the art tooling automation to ensure repeatable production of aerospace parts.

-Creates and repairs research and development tooling to ensure the predictability of parts.

-Ensure that tooling projects are efficiently managed and meet or exceed all timing, quality and budgetary expectations.

-Documents all issues, performs root cause analysis and drives all open issues to resolution.

-Creates standard work instructions for the tooling operators.

-Report on all critical tooling project issues regularly to department management and to the customer.






Skills & Qualifications


Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.  

-Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Composite Material and/or Mechanical Engineering.
-A minimum of 5+ years experience in design, manufacturing or quality engineering of flight hardware using advanced composite materials within a lean, aerospace manufacturing environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, qualifications, competencies, abilities and any physical demands if required.  

-Must have an extensive working knowledge of advanced composites production operations, automated & conventional material placement technology, applicable tooling/fixtures conceptualization and design, tooling fabrication, machining operations, autoclave / oven processes and quality control procedures

-Must be able to read, write and edit technical reports / blueprints / drawings / work orders including the preparation of tables, graphs and figures using PC software

-Must have strong analytical and communication skills

-Will be a team oriented individual with a continuous improvement (lean, Six Sigma) problem solving background

-Must have excellent proficiency on CAD Systems (SolidWorks, CATIA V5 or higher, CAD/CAM, AutoCAD, etc)

-Must have excellent proficiency in MS Office applications (Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

-Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask

- Excellent communication skills with aptitude for problem solving

-Must have strong statistical and mathematic skills

-Must have prior experience in a composite manufacturing environment; preferably from
automotive, aerospace and /or defense environments with resin transfer molding
(RTM) processes
        
-Must be willing and able to be hands-on during the development process, working alongside technicians and the technical staff
