Job Summary & Essential Functions:  The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. 

The Value Stream Manager leads and motivates multiple single flow production lines to ensure product quality, team member safety and on-time delivery, within budget.  Oversees all activities in these lines to drive results on key performance indicators.  Leads the ongoing development of the value stream team, coaches and supports the Value Stream Supervisors to deliver results and develop their teams.  Takes full responsibility for the financial performance, safety and quality performance, delivery performance and customer satisfaction results in his/her area of production. 

•      Leads by example, with extra focus on developing the new capabilities and competencies needed for transformational actions as well as for the long-term transformation of the operations group.  Solicits and recognizes work teams’ input in this area on an ongoing basis.

•      Accountable for maintaining the assigned Value Stream by meeting safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity goals.

•      Develops actions plans surrounding Value Stream related countermeasures and drives implementation.

•      Drives KPI metrics within the Value Stream by utilizing direct report resources.   Collaborates with cross-functional departments to generate and prioritize projects in order to meet specified metrics.

•      Responsible for the leadership of Value Stream Supervisors.

•      Co-develops Annual Operating Plan and is responsible for all departmental budgets.

•      Responsible for the monitoring and reporting of key data as required.

•      Evaluates performance gaps and implements proper countermeasures, using sound quality/lean facts and tools.

•      Ensures the best integration of new products on the single-flow lines as each is introduced at the value stream level.

•      Responsible for and leads cost reduction initiatives in assigned work area.  Encourages team member input and suggestions for improvement at all levels.

•      Ensures accurate inventory levels by supporting cycle counts, Kanbans and effective data management utilizing the Baan system.

•      Coordinates and assists Value Stream Manufacturing Engineers in assimilation of new products into manufacturing in a timely manner.

•      Assigns and prioritizes improvement and quality related projects with the Value Stream Manufacturing Engineers.

•      Encourages and drives the development of a safety culture, lean, quality, 6S and a continuous improvement mindset amongst all personnel in assigned area of responsibility.

•      Encourages and drives the development of an engaged and empowered workforce through ongoing leadership and support.

•      Develops strong partnership with Supply Chain function to validate line activity and performance.

•      Leads and encourages a customer-centered approach, utilizing frequent feedback and data shared with teams to keep awareness levels at the highest levels.

•      Takes a strong leadership stance on safety and the well-being of all teams and shifts in the production area.  Has responsibility and authority to shut down production and seek resolution when safety and certain quality standards are not being attained.  Will stop and resolve any condition where the continued manufacture of the company product might compromise safety, quality or severely impact costs.

•      Supports and enforces safety policies and training in compliance with company safety program and OSHA regulations to eliminate work-related injuries.

•      Manages staffing and budgetary requirements to ensure organizational effectiveness.  Supports additional team resource (headcount) requests by data and current team performance.  Supports the selection, integration and on-going placement of new and existing team members.

•      Recognizes team and individual accomplishments while fostering a work environment conducive to mutual respect for one another, encouraging the Ducommun Way.

•      Supervisory responsibilities for direct labor with the assigned Value Stream.

•      Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

•      Directly responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

•      Maintains time and attendance records.

•      Manages Training Program (Plan, Skills Matrix, Cross-training, and Employee Development) in Value Stream(s) to enable each employee to perform tasks to the best of their ability.

•      Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge of functional duties and company policies and answers questions from other workers on procedures, policies, work orders and other directions.

•      Coordinates with technical and engineering personnel on matters affecting the operation specifications or modifications to equipment, product or processes.

•      Serves as the liaison between the team and other departments to evaluate/troubleshoot and convey an identified team technical, productivity, safety, quality and/or disciplinary problems.

•      Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.

•      Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.

•      Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.

•      Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

•      Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

•      Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

•      Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required.

•      Conscientious, organized and meticulous:  records must be accurate and maintained.

•      Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.

•      Ability to lead or facilitate Lean Enterprise initiatives.

•      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; climb ladders and equipment.

•      Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

•      Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

•      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and hazardous substances.

•      Must be able to communicate effectively.

•      Annual baseline hearing test is required.

•      Must be able to handle demands associated with management position.

•      Responsibilities may include travel.

Skills & Qualifications

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered. 

•      Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, preferably in Engineering, Technical or Business discipline, is required.

•      2-4 years of value stream operations management experience with track record of building, developing and evaluating teams.

•      5 years’ experience in a Lean focused process improvement role with advanced training in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 6s, SMED, and other continuous improvement methodologies.

•      5-10 years of aerospace manufacturing experience preferred, or progressive related manufacturing experience.

•      Lean / Six Sigma Certification a plus.

•      Strong financial acumen. 

•      Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required.
