Laser Operator
Laser Operator sets up and operates computer-numerical control (CNC) machine to cut and fabricate metallic parts.

Job Summary
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and references points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machine
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
- Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, indicators, and scales.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Prior CNC operator experience helpful.
- Read and understand internal procedures and policies.
- Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions.
- Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.

- Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance.
Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications
- High School Diploma; up to 3 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience
- Math Skills – decimals, percentages, fractions - geometry and trigonometry is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars.
- Prior CNC operator experience helpful.
- Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance.
Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
- Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Working conditions are: 100% manufacturing environment.
- Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Noise level is usually moderate.
- Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
- Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
