Performance Center Director

The Performance Center Director will act as an integral member of the senior leadership team, creating net value for Ducommun Incorporated by leading the business to achieve annual operating objectives and long-range plans.  This role will have responsibility for the total performance of the site, including, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Materials Planning, Business Development, New Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Contracts and Facilities. As a member of the senior leadership staff, promote and demonstrate the guiding principles, vision, mission, and values of Ducommun.

Who are we? 

Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Starting as a hardware supply store during the California Gold Rush and eventually assisted in the birth of the aerospace industry in Southern California by providing aircraft aluminum to early aerospace pioneers like Lindbergh, Douglas and Lockheed. 

Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications. 

Our Facility in Coxsackie, NY manufactures large, complex contoured structural components and assemblies for aerospace and other applications. Our integrated processes include stretch-forming, thermal-forming, chemical processing, precision fabrication, machining, finishing processes, and integration of components into subassemblies.

Job Summary

  •         Ensure 100% Customer satisfaction through quality, delivery and relationship building with all Customers

  •         Lead and optimize the facility and processes for Operational Excellence to deliver customer and financial goals for the business. 

•         Schedule and deliver quality products on-time to meet customer requirements

•         Lead and execute continuous improvement to reduce cost, improve competitiveness relative to cycle times and improve quality

•         Ensure facility capability and performance

•         Control and improve operational costs both direct and indirect

•         Provide leadership and oversight in the execution of customer contracts through hands-on leadership and direction for all aspects of operations. 

•         Lead, structure, and plan the management of the overall manufacturing operation and new product design and design for manufacturing to achieve company goals for product quality, on-time delivery, effective inventory management, product R&D and manufacturing profit and productivity.

•         Recognize and solve problems affecting current and future production including scheduling, staffing, quality, supply chain, EH&S, facilities, and equipment.

•         Conduct make/buy analysis, lead bid/no bid decisions, ensure customer support and interface requirements are met, conduct program management reviews, and develop new program support.

•         Lead and support the continuation and sustainment of a Lean and Six Sigma manufacturing culture through personal involvement in comprehensive training and utilization of productivity measurements and KPI’s.

•         Maintain a safe work environment for facility and its employees.

•         Coordinate and collaborate with other departments and peers within the organization in establishing and carrying out responsibilities.

•         Establish objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities.  Issue specific annual objectives to immediate subordinates

•         Attract and retain top talent to the Performance Center.  Increase skill base and credentials of the team through mentoring and performance management with an emphasis on technical management and cost control.

ORGANZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

•         Reports to the Sr. Vice President of Operations.

•         The following positions report directly to the Performance Center Director:

o   Operations Management, Supply Chain Manager, Program Management, Quality, Engineering, Safety, and Other Roles as Assigned

•         The following positions have a dotted line to the Performance Center Director:

o   Controller, IT, and HR

•         Advises, consults, coordinates with:

o   Director Finance:  Budgets, spending profiles, policies, short- and long-term planning.

o   Manager Human Resources:  Personnel policy(s), recruitment and staffing requirements, labor relations, organizational structure.

o   MIS:  System support requirements, approval of PC software programs.

o   Operational Excellence

o   EH&S


Required Skills and Qualifications

•         Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business is required.  Master’s degree or MBA is   preferred.

•         Minimum of 10-15 years well-rounded progressive experience in operations/manufacturing and new product development leadership in a data driven environment is required.

•         Experience and thorough understanding of AD&D structural manufacturing, composites. New Product Introduction and Phase Gate Reviews is required.  Experience in aerospace or related design manufacturing environment within aerospace and defense industry is preferred.

•         Previous experience and thorough understanding of process control/lean manufacturing/Six Sigma principles and their application across all operations disciplines is required.

•         Strong business/financial management skills and demonstrated track-record for meeting operational and financial goals is required.

•         Must have had P&L responsibility for an operation.

•         Must have had direct responsibility for an operation, not just purchasing, material control, and QA.

•         Must be able to grow into a larger position responsibility including up to a vice president level.

•         Demonstrated success in turnaround and cultural change implementation is highly preferred.

Base Compensation: USD 205,000.00 - 260,000.00 Paid Salaried
