Test Engineer

The Test Engineer will design and develop test systems and software for performing in-process and final product testing.

Our Facility in Carson, CA is our Engineered Products Group location, which houses our Human Machine Interface, Motion Control Device, Radiofrequency Departments.

Job Summary:

  • Position requires developing test systems and software for performing in-process and final product testing using RF sweepers, RF power meters, vector network analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers and other related RF equipment. 
  • Designs automated tests systems including programming, fixtures and cabling required.
  • Programs microcontrollers and designs hardware interfaces.
  • Designs PCB layouts for microcontrollers as needed.
  • Performs production tests involving the understanding of engineering theory and interpretation of results in a high reliability (space) environment. Maintain test schedule.
  • Understand Customer MRB authority, documentation, and other requirements inherent in the high reliability environment.
  • Diagnose malfunctions or production problems on the basis of test results.
  • Perform trouble shooting and rework of complex items.
  • Report regularly to management and other stakeholders.
  • Complex box-level assembly work, test set up and documentation, other tasks which require special care in handling or other procedures which require good dexterity and facility in use of a variety of hand tools.
  • May set up or devise test procedures for new or limited-production items.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills & Qualifications

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Programming experience in C, C++ required. Python and LabVIEW experience desired.
  • Familiarity with microcontroller programming and interfacing. Arduino experience desirable.
  • Familiarity with TCIP communications.
  • Familiar with RF measurement equipment and techniques
  • Perform RF Bench, Thermal Cycling, Vibration, and Passive Intermodulation on Spaceflight components in accordance with test procedures
  • Must be able to read and interpret test instructions, assembly instructions, and engineering drawings (blueprints)
  • Prepare test reports
  • Assemble critical spaceflight hardware
  • Minimum 2 years direct engineering experience, preferably within space or aerospace/defense test engineering industry
  • Participate in continuous process improvement activities
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must complete all assigned paperwork as required.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and electronics safety precautions.
  • Proficiency with computer usage and knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP systems.

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering or related field.
