Design Engineering Manager - RF Background

Drives New Product Development (NPD) and Sustaining Engineering effectiveness and efficiency across Engineering disciplines.  Responsible for developing department capabilities to support business needs, including employee development and continuous improvement of facilities and equipment.  Has overall responsibility to ensure department goals and objectives are met as set in the Annual Operating Plan (AOP).

Balances managerial responsibilities with individual contribution to the development of new radio frequency (RF) products including electromechanical switches.  Leads engineering projects and serves as a technical leader within the company and our industries.

Our Performance Center in Carson, CA is the Engineered Products Group site for our Human Machine Interface, Motion Control Device, and Radio Frequency (RF) product lines.

Job Summary
  • Leads the Design Engineering team consisting of electrical, radio frequency (RF), and mechanical engineers and technicians.
  • Individually contributes to the development new radio frequency (RF) products including electromechanical switches.
  • Drives progress in new product development, internal research and development (IRAD), continuous improvement, and sustaining engineering.
  • Tracks technology development trends and competitive product development trends to help identify and anticipate future opportunities and competitive threats.
  • Cross-functionally interacts to coordinate plans and achieve results.
  • Measures performance of individuals and teams, providing updates with recommendations for improvement.
  • Promotes individual and team training to ensure staff are ready to support initiatives and projects.
  • Drives employee performance, development, hiring, and staffing projections.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on policies and procedures to maximize department performance, authoring new policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Manages fiscal responsibility for department, forecasting future requirements and managing expenses within established budget.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in Aerospace and/or Defense industries. Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Experience with product design and development within a stage-gate process
  • Experience bringing radio frequency (RF) devices from concept through to design and production, including 2D/3D simulation (HFSS or similar) and hardware testing (network analyzers and other RF test equipment).
  • Understanding of AS9100 Rev C and ISO 9000 is preferred.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Active U.S. SECRET security clearance or ability to obtain clearance.This requires U.S. Citizen status plus the ability to successfully pass a background screening within 1 year of start date.

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years progressive experience
  • Two (2) or more years of experience leading or managing engineering teams, which can include project management and/or project engineering
