Painter tends machine equipped with compressed air spray nozzles that coat products or materials with paint or rust proofing agents.

Job Summary
  • Pours premixed paint or lacquer into reservoir of machine and couples hose to paint pots or cup guns

  • Adjusts sleeve on nozzles to attain specified spraying pressure and turns thumbscrew to adjust spray pattern towards articles or materials to be coated

  • Mixes paints with thinner solution according to formula

  • Applies dry lube and paint per work order and mil specifications

  • Bakes certain primers in curing oven per specifications

  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area

  • Other duties as assigned may include but not limited to sand blasting and spraying maskant for chem-mill

Skills & Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a mil thickness gauge required

  • Ability to operate a forklift

  • Ability to operate an overhead crane

  • Must be safety oriented

  • Read and understand internal procedures and policies

  • Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions

  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook

  • Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications

  • High School Diploma; up to 3 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Able to read blueprints and mylars

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required

  • Responsible for the proper storage of hazardous wastes within paint department and collection of hazardous wastes from other departments, including transportation to the hazardous waste storage shed
  • Knowledge of policy and procedures in the event of a hazardous waste release, fire or explosion. Knowledge of the chemical characteristics and location of hazardous waste in the facility. Ability to shut down operations
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Annual pulmonary test is required
  • Annual eye exam is required
  • Must be able to communicate effectively
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear
