Job Description

As the Fabrication department lead, you will perform training of other employees on the safe set-up and operation of all Fabrication Cell equipment and processes, set up and operate conventional and numerical control (NC) fabrication machines and welding centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions

  • Trains and observes other employees on safety, setup and operation of machines, inspection techniques, and shop practices.
  •  Coordinates with Shop Foreman to direct the operation and performance of assigned work area to meet company standards for safety, quality, quantity and effectiveness
  •  Guide and train employees in assigned area to develop and effectively use their work potential.
  •  Provide feedback of employee training results and performance to Shop Foreman.
  •  Assists other employees in verification of machine set ups and process outputs to specifications.
  •  Ensure safe, orderly and clean plant facilities, work areas and equipment to facilitate production and to promote safety.
  •  Maintains the machines, systems, and work areas with which they perform their duties. Perform 5S duties on daily basis for organization, safety, and cleanliness.
  •  Studies blueprints, sketches, drawing, manuals, specification, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  •  Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as guides for subsequent operations.
  •  Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as shears, lasers, brake press, drill press, grinders, rollers, and shapers.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate process control factors such as bend allowance, coining, spring back, cut compensation, power and/or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Detects malfunctions or out-of-tolerance processes, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work pieces to specifications.
  •  Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Installs fabricated replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve fabrication, operational, or assembly problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the company as whole and fellow employees.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Use of measurement devices
  • Read and understand blueprints

Relevant Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 3 - 5 years related experience and/or training
  • Knowledge of using CAD software to program Numerical Control (NC) machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.


Work Environment and Safety Required 

  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. 
  • Frequently requited to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. 
  • Frequently exposed to humid conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate.
