Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Job Description
Main Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions of the Position):
Leads, supervises and directs the engineering department which includes tool design, manufacturing planning, and document control.
Key member of the management team.
Provide leadership and direction to the product development group where product issues are identified, detailed, improved upon or corrected early in the product development process
Provide leadership and direction in manufacturing lean processes as required in product flow, tooling and standard work procedures
Provide leadership to Bid and Proposal process for the site
Work with product marketing to assist in the product bid and proposal pricing process
Provide input for manufacturability, direct and non recurrent cost as part of the bid and proposal process
Provide leadership for engineering project management
Provide assistance to operation in meeting financial goals per annual operating plan
Provide leadership during technical information exchange with customers
Provide implementation of manufacturing that is process dependant
Product planning, scheduling and tracking of product development cycles and acquisition of needed resources when appropriate
Develop and write product engineering specifications that meet the vision set forth by the product/marketing requirements documents
Ensure customer requirements are met during the product development process and all appropriate requirements are incorporated in to product insuring that key features are tested and that products certified to be ready to ship; are in fact ready to ship
Work closely with in house and out of house developers; leading them to a successful product deliverable by cooperatively working together on product features and prioritization of software development change requests.
Train the product engineer’s tools such as 8D, PFMEA, DMEA, lean design concepts and ensure the engineering team uses structured gate review process during product development
Provide leadership to configuration management and design and drafting management by establishing drafting standards and standard components in design
Conduct skill set analysis of the group and identify methods to reduce the gap
Develop and mature an engineering culture and infrastructure for the company
Demonstrated knowledge of the engineering requirements with military and government programs
Reviews and makes recommendations on policies and procedures to maximize department operating performance
Team leader for cause and corrective action team, a cross-functional team that includes members from Quality and Manufacturing functions.
Participates in the annual strategic planning and budgeting process, with budgetary responsibility for the Engineering Department.
Supports manufacturing and other departments as an internal customer.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications

Aero space or Automotive industry related manufacturing, product development and project management experience highly desirable
Six Sigma, Lean Product development, Kaizen Activity are highly desirable
Must be proficient in the use of MS-Office tools
Project Management skills are highly desired
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars
Pleasant personality, must interact with all levels of personnel, customers and vendors
Read and understand internal procedures and policies
Overtime and weekend work as needed to support manufacturing
Overnight travel as needed to support customer and manufacturing
Ability to keep confidential information
Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook
Experience/Training/Education/Certification:
Experienced in managing document control, and customer design requirements
Experience in Design to Specification processes and Build to Print processes
Experienced with line flow, standard work, tooling and LEAN manufacturing applications
Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) experience
Implemented and managed engineering Phase Gate Development Process
Working knowledge of program prioritization process and work breakdown structures
Working knowledge of Estimation to Completion process
Demonstrated ability to effectively build, manage and lead an engineering department
Computer proficient in the following:
MS Office including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, and Word
AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, and Inventor (or Solid works)
MRP/ERP systems

Working conditions are: 75% office environment, 25% manufacturing environment.
Noise level is moderate in office environment.
Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat.
Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.
Fully enclosed shoes, leather construction, must be worn in all manufacturing areas.
Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
