Job Description

The Appleton Performance Center is seeking an SMT Operator for our weekend shift working Friday - Sunday from 6:00 am - 6:00 pm.  Primary responsibilities include build surface mount (SMT) and Mixed Technology printed circuit board assemblies, placing components on boards per controlled parts lists, drawing documentation and quality workmanship guidelines.  Additional responsibilities include:

  • Setup and operate assigned production equipment while achieving goals for quality, efficiency and productivity
  • Monitor the operation of equipment to ensure that assemblies are built to print and in compliance with applicable workmanship standards
  • Inspect printed solder paste and component alignment for accuracy
  • Understand and identify defects in accordance with applicable workmanship standard and class
  • Perform daily machine maintenance activities for assigned production equipment as specified on the Preventive Maintenance schedules
  • Perform manual placement of SMT and PIH components
  • Load feeders for equipment and wash boards as needed
  • Adhere to General Requirements of Team Members
  • Perform other assignments as required
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area

Skills & Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Two years printed circuit board assembly experience required
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer
  • Mechanical ability to troubleshoot and correct mechanical problems with assigned production equipment
  • Ability to read and understand load plans
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering assembly drawings
  • Ability to read and understand production drawings
  • Ability to build electronic assemblies
  • Use a variety of hand tools, including calipers
  • Basic component identification skills, including all applicable SMT packages
  • Recognize and identify the different types of solder paste and their applications
